SKIPMAN ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENTThe right skip for the waste, access and location
Choosing your skip
Tell us what the load contains, your postcode and where the skip will stand. Heavy rubble, soil and concrete need a suitable 6- or 8-yard skip; larger sizes are for lighter bulky waste. Keep the load level with the sides and declare restricted materials before booking

Use this quick checklist before we arrive and before collection day.
Prepare for delivery
Choose private land where possible. Keep firm, level ground, about 3 metres of clear access and safe overhead clearance. If the skip must go on the road, arrange the required permit before delivery and protect the driveway or paving.
Prepare for collection
Keep the skip level-loaded, with nothing above or outside the sides. Remove prohibited items, keep the access route clear and have the waste ready for collection day, especially if access is through the house.
!
Prohibited items
Do not place asbestos, gas cylinders, paint or liquids, oils, batteries, medical or hazardous waste, tyres, fluorescent tubes, fridges, freezers or upholstered items such as sofas and mattresses in a standard skip. Ask us before booking if any of these are present.
Level loads only — keep all waste at or below the top edge of the skip.
Illustrative loading examples
✓ Correct: level loaded
Distribute waste evenly. Keep everything within the sides, with nothing protruding above the rim.
✕ Incorrect: overloaded
Do not pile waste above the rim or use boards to increase the sides. Excess waste must be removed before safe collection; additional charges may apply.
Heavy waste such as bricks, soil and rubble is only suitable for an agreed 6 or 8 yard skip. Larger skips are for light, bulky waste. If unsure, send a photo before collection.
Skip hire terms & customer acceptance
Read the prohibited-materials list, access and level-loading requirements, the £120 + VAT failed collection charge, and separate charges for plasterboard, artificial grass, carpets and roofing felt before booking.

3Fill and callKeep it level-loaded and tell us when it is ready.
Heavy waste should go only in suitable smaller skips, normally 6 or 8 yards. The 12, 14 and 16 yard sizes are for lighter bulky waste. Skips must remain level-loaded.
POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants) are harmful chemicals that remain in the environment for a long time. Some were used as flame retardants in furniture, particularly in foam and fabric.
Do not put sofas, sofa beds, armchairs, upholstered dining chairs or footstools that may contain POPs into a mixed-waste skip. Tell SKIPMAN about these items before booking so that separate collection, handling and disposal can be agreed.
In England, seating waste containing POPs must be kept separate from other waste and sent to an authorised facility for incineration to destroy the POPs. It must not go to landfill or ordinary recycling.
Separate handling and treatment can mean additional disposal costs. Any arrangements and charges for these items must be confirmed before you book your skip.
